01 - CHALLENGE
Building personality into utility
The brief called for a versatile sans serif that could perform across large headlines, small interface text, printed matter, and spatial applications. It needed enough character to give brands a voice, but enough restraint to work inside demanding systems where clarity is essential.
The challenge was to create distinction through detail rather than exaggeration. Every curve, terminal, width, and space had to feel intentional while remaining familiar enough for everyday use. The family also needed a broad range of weights and styles to support designers across different contexts without losing its central personality.
02 - APPROACH
Detail in the familiar
We started with familiar grotesk proportions, then introduced subtle humanist details in the curves, joins, terminals, and spacing. These decisions give Mira Sans a softer rhythm and a more expressive voice without reducing its clarity. The family was tested repeatedly across editorial, interface, signage, and campaign scenarios.
Alongside the type design, we created a launch identity that uses the typeface as its own visual material. Oversized specimens, considered cropping, and concise technical information reveal the character of the family in use. The visual system makes the craft accessible while positioning the typeface as a practical contemporary tool.
03 - OUTCOME
A typeface made for everyday distinction
Mira Sans delivers a flexible, characterful foundation for modern communication. It works quietly in long form text and confidently in display settings, allowing designers to move across platforms and formats with one coherent type system.
The launch created a clear story around its capabilities, turning technical detail into a visual experience. Mira Sans now exists not only as a font family, but as a recognisable design voice: precise, warm, useful, and quietly expressive in the places people encounter every day.
